Located just thirty minutes south of Red Deer on the banks of Pine Lake you’ll find Whispering Pines Golf & Country Club Resort. Whispering Pines is a 18 hole, par-72 course that features wide rolling fairways, panoramic lake views, a number of well placed water hazards and silica sand traps that are sure to get your attention.
The course is playable and enjoyable for golfers of all skill levels and is even home to an island green. Whispering Pines also features an unique routing with the front nine in the middle of the property and back nine then wrapping around the outside of those holes.
Our favourite par-3 was the downhill 11th. Playing 177 yards from the back tee set high up on the hill you have a great view of Pine Lake and the well guarded green down below(Image below taken early in the 2023 season, what a view!).
Whispering Pines has a fun set of par-4’s ranging from 302-380 yards. One that stood out to us was the 380 yard tenth hole. Off the tee, ten is guarded down the right by a set of well placed bunkers. A valley cuts through the hole right in front of the green so any approach shot short
could roll back down some 20 yards. The green itself is also guarded by two bunkers long and one short left.
There are four shorter but tricky par-5’s on the course that play; 480, 523, 460, and 516 yards. Our favourite of which is probably the straight away 523 yard ninth hole. This is a hole again with lake views and is well guarded by bunkers. It will take four pretty good shots to make a birdie on this hole.
No trip out to Whispering Pines would be complete with stopping in at The Pines Clubhouse Restaurant for a bite to eat. The food is great, and the patio overlooking the lake could be one of the nicest in Central Alberta.
